Emily & Maddy’s Wedding

The event team at Penny’s by Plaza Flowers had the privilege of working with Emily and Maddy on their wedding ceremony and reception at the Hill-Physick House in historic Philadelphia. The charming museum and estate, located in the heart of Old City, includes a lush garden inside colonial brick walls. This venue was the ideal location for us to execute Emily and Maddy’s vision of an outdoor wedding that mixed regal elegance and rustic charm.

We began bringing this vision to life with custom hand tied bouquets in loose, garden style, bursting with color. We designed the bridal bouquets to coordinate, but not match; each one contained floral varieties and touches that made it unique. Next, our event designed a custom metal arch to compliment the arched woodwork on the magnificent Fourth Street entrance to the museum. The arch was fully-decorated with fresh cremones, ranunculus, roses and more in the huge cooler at our design studio, then transported in three sections to the venue. Similarly, the cedar garden arbor was covered in modular fresh flower designs thar were pre-constructed at the studio and assembled on-site. This was flanked by two matching fresh flower pillars the created a breathtaking backdrop for the ceremony and dance floor.

For the reception, long rustic barnwood feasting tables were decorated with a tablescape of assorted candles and small vases of anemones, snapdragons, lisianthus and roses. Floral designs with cascading garden flowers and greenery were placed along the walls, by the gates and around the statuary. Inside the museum, several floral designs in crystal clear glass adorned the charcuterie, entrance, side tables and even the restrooms. Custom garlands were designed to frame the signage.

All of the arrangements were hand-crafted specially for the event and made to compliment the museum venue. The cobblestone streets and brick walls of Old City brought out the soft petals of the snapdragons and delphinium, historic architecture and interiors from the museum highlighted the ageless charm of the roses and waxflowers and the lush greenery of the garden was the perfect place to make the bright colors in these arrangements pop!

The Hill-Physick House, constructed in 1786, features French-influenced Neoclassical decor with an indoor parlor and drawing room which lead to the property’s gardens through a floor-to-ceiling sash window. The venue can accommodate weddings and events with up to 100 guests, making it perfect for small weddings, banquets, anniversaries, fundraisers and other non-profit events. Penny’s by Plaza Flowers has a long history of working with various venues and event planners throughout the Philadelphia area, and we look forward to returning to this neighborhood soon for our next lovely event!
